ICD-10-CM Guidelines were updated in October 2021 in regard to substance use disorders and manifestations. While few guidelines exist for this very complex chapter, pairing the ICD-10-CM manual and instructions found in DSM-5 can help us understand these conditions and the diagnostic criteria supporting them. UDS measures, population health initiatives, and Risk Adjustment programs are all affected by the quality of data we capture in this section.
