Fracture coding presents some significant challenges to even the experienced coder. We’ll build on our understanding from the previous installment and explore additional options for 7th character reporting with help from the Gustilo open fracture classification scale. A robust understanding (or at a minimum ample resource pairing) of anatomy is a must for fracture reporting. We’ll discuss reporting of fracture/dislocations, types of fractures represented with subterms, and reinjuries.
