While the title of this chapter implies we’ll be reporting the included codes for our neonates, these conditions can persist throughout the life of the patient. We’ll talk about the implications of these conditions in long-term care delivery. We’ll also grapple with coding for preterm infants, including gestational age and weight considerations which often create frustrations for seasoned coders. A handful of congenital conditions (infections acquired in utero or during birth) are reported in this chapter.
